Grill It Up for Labor Day

Diane Bearden Barrett August 31, 2023

This Labor Day doesn’t have to be all burgers and hot dogs. If you’re tired of the same old grilling ideas for your Labor Day grill-out, try one of these originals out on your family.

Hot Subs

Assemble thinly sliced steak, ham, turkey, pepperoni and different cheeses in a foil packet and sprinkle with your favorite Italian seasoning, pepper and olive oil. Everyone can choose what they want to put on their sandwich. Seal and grill packets for 10 minutes. Open and add to a bun with condiments, lettuce, tomato and more.

Grilled Tater Tots

Skewer tator tots or place them in a grill basket, and grill until tender on the inside, but crispy on the outside. Serve with a decorate-your-own tots topping bar with items like shredded cheeses, sour cream, bacon, jalapenos, chives and anything else you deem tot-worthy.

Veggie Skewers

Cut up zucchini, yellow squash, mini peppers, mushroom caps, cherry tomatoes and even pineapple and shake them together in a big plastic bag with olive oil, pepper, salt, and any seasonings you’d like to add. Then skewer these colorful bites and grill. This will be everyone’s new favorite side dish.

Grilled Dessert

Dessert can come from the grill too! Try grilling peaches or apple slices. The heat will caramelize the sugar in the fruit and create a richer flavor. Add a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla for a special weekend treat.
